Almost an empty nester.

Yesterday my wife and I drove our son up to get moved into his dorm at Humboldt State University.  We packed up the Suburban full of his stuff and spent yesterday evening and the majority of today getting him set up in his new residence.  Although it will take some adjusting for Betty and I to get used to not having him at home, it looks like he will have the beginnings of a good college experience.  The university is located right next to the small town of Arcata, California just north of Eureka along the coast.  The town has a small, quaint atmosphere and the student population at Humboldt is between six and seven thousand.

My son will start off with a relatively light school load so he can give himself some time to get used to being away from home and he will also be involved with the school lacrosse team.  He appears to be eager to start his new life as a college freshman and I am sure that he will make quite a few new friends.  His dorm room is a bit small but it has a common kitchen and is located in a nice area.

With the current economic turmoil that our country is experiencing, it is nice to be able to give him the opportunity to pursue a college education.  I am sure that his mother will be with him every step of the way to make sure that none of the classes required for graduation are overlooked.   She is a wonderful woman to whom I owe much and my children could not have asked for a better mother.

Even though the process of getting him up here has been a hectic one, it is nice to have been able to do it being part of a family that is close and cohesive.
