Over the past couple of years, I have been trying to make a point in my life to be grateful for all that I am blessed with. A few days ago, I took out a notebook and began writing down a list of things that I feel to some degree are an enhancement to my life. I was surprised to see how large the list turned out to be!
For those who may feel that they don't have much to be thankful for, I would like to offer the following advice so you can pause to evaluate if it would have a positive impact upon you. Take a moment to pause, look around you and see what is present. Consider what it would be like if the element you are observing was not there. Granted, it may make no difference in your current life situation but see if whatever it is that you are observing is enough for you to say "Thank you for ___________!". If whatever it is you are observing, whether it be physical, situational, or mental is something that is having a negative effect on your life, see if there is something that you can do about it. If there is, that is AWESOME! Now there is something to be thankful and grateful for!
If at the moment there is nothing that can be done, you can elect to accept the moment as it is. In Joel Osteen's book "Your Best Life Now", he gives some excellent perspective on how to deal with adversity. It helps one to assess the situation and to put things in a new frame of reference. This has helped me on numerous occasions on dealing with situations that I had just as soon not have been presented to me. But oh what a joy it was having that kind of guidance to fall back upon!
There is a myriad of references available on the subject of gratitude and the positive effect that a sense of gratitude can have upon your existence. Try not to focus on what is bad but spend more of your energy focusing upon what is good!
May you be blessed with peace, joy and abundance!
